CropLife International Annual Conference,
Brussels, 6 June 2002
CropLife International held its second Annual Conference in Brussels on 6 June 2002. Participants joined from not only the global plant science industry but also NGOs, international governmental organisations and media who have a stake in sustainable agriculture and development
The conference opened with a film showing various public-private partnership projects which have been set up around the world to find longterm sustainable solutions to agricultural problems.
Various members of the plant science industry then gave very short presentations of the various aspects of the complete life-cycle approach of crop protection products ranging from the manufacturing and research through integrated pest management (IPM), safe and responsible use of products, to training programmes and obsolete stock management.
Speakers from outside our industry then took the floor. They were invited to the conference with the brief of commenting on and debating the activities of our industry, and to highlight the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture, the environment and sustainability today. Their interventions were extremely informative, educational and in some case entertaining, and provoked a wide range of questions and ideas for reflection.
A summary of the conference is available and can be downloaded here.
